Stranger Than Fiction

Every so often, I come across something that is so weird that I have to check to make sure it is not just a hoax.  Today was one of those times.  Joan Walsh, the uber-progressive head of the Salon website, has a column today which is supposedly all about Hillary Clinton and her run for the White House in 2016.  By itself, the subject is no surprise.  Things have not been going that well for the left recently, so looking ahead to Hillary is quite predictable.  But listen to what Walsh actually has to say.

First, Walsh gives the opinion that Hillary is running a wonderful campaign and will make a great president.  Walsh's reason is that Clinton's new Twitter account is up and running and it is going well.  I am not kidding; Walsh discusses Clinton's "widely hailed Twitter debut" as if hiring someone to send short messages for you is the basis for selecting a president.

Second, Walsh talks about the "phony" White House scandals of Benghazi and the IRS and how they are being over hyped by the press, an pattern that is demoralizing liberals.  There is no question that many on the left are demoralized because the facts are coming out regarding both Benghazi and the IRS.  Calling these stories "phony" scandals, however, is completely delusional on Walsh's part.  American diplomats died in Benghazi and neither president Obama nor Hillary Clinton took any action to prevent the attacks or give assistance once they began.  Then they spread a phony story about what had happened in order to cover up their true failures.  Indeed, Walsh's icon, Hillary Clinton actually said that the lies made no difference.  And the IRS as a phony scandal?  Tell that to the folks who were persecuted for their political beliefs.  Tell that to the people whose constitutional rights were violated by an attack directed by Washington using the full force of the IRS.

Third, Walsh expounds at great length how Clinton needs to embrace the entire Obama record and run on it in 2016.  That is perhaps the most amazing thing of all.  Obama himself did not run on his record in 2012; he couldn't win that way.  How in the world could Hillary win if she embraces the record of failure and makes it her own?

Sometimes I wonder how someone like Walsh was ever hired.
