One More Illegal Act

It's hard to believe, but the Hillary Clinton email story just got a new angle.  According to McClatchy DC, Hillary's private unsecured email server was backed up to a firm in Connecticut called Datto, Inc.  The server copied its contents every day to the cloud storage system at Datto.  It may not sound like much; many computer systems around the country are backed up each day to the cloud.  The difference with Hillary Clinton's system is that the Clinton system contained hundreds of classified documents including even some that were Top Secret.  By law, classified information must be stored only in government approved places.  Failure to store the classified information in the approved way is a federal crime.  Needless to say, the Datto cloud backup system does not appear to be a federally approved storage site for classified information.

Most of the stories about this Datto backup system focus on the possibility that some of the so-called personal emails that Hillary deleted may still be resident on the cloud backup system.  That's interesting, but the criminal aspect of this is much more serious.

What will happen next?
