Rootin Tootin Putin

At the moment, Russians president Vladimir Putin is the target of much of the mainstream media, the Clinton campaign and even the White House for supposedly trying to influence our election in favor of Donald Trump.  Hillary Clinton tells us how Trump has a close relationship with Putin and admires him as a leader.  It's a silly claim when you think about it though.

Here's the question that all Americans need to ask themselves:  who is it who gave Vladimir Putin the ability to move to the forefront of the world stage?  Remember 25 years ago, the Soviet Union collapsed and broke into pieces.  Russia is just a little over half of the old USSR.  Russia's economy is very small compared to America's or even to that of the European Union.  For the most part, the Russian economy survives on revenues from the sale of oil and gas and other natural resources.  Russia still has the nuclear forces of the old USSR, but it cannot match the military power of the United States or even that of China.  So how did Russia get to be such a major villain across the world?  The answer is rather simple:  Russia and Putin owe their current position to two people, namely president Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Think about it.  In 2008, Russia invaded the neighboring country of Georgia.  The USA under president Bush organized sanctions against the Russians that were imposed by America, the nations of the European Union and many in Asia.  Russia's economic well being was threatened as the sanctions began to bite.  Five months later, Obama and Clinton came in as the American foreign policy team.  One of the first moves was something that Hillary Clinton proudly calls a great achievement:  the so called "Russian reset".  Hillary had a photo op with the Russian foreign minister and gave him a red button with the Russian word for "overcharge" written on it.  The geniuses at the State Department had meant to write the word for "reset" on the button but they screwed it up.  The reset, however, was much more than a photo op with a mislabeled button.  The reset was a move by America to get rid of all the sanctions imposed on Russia for the invasion of Georgia.  The Russian army was still in Georgia, but the sanctions disappeared.  The Russians and Putin quickly learned that they could get away with things with Obama.

Next came the issue of missile defense.  During the Bush administration, the USA agreed with Poland and the Czech Republic to station anti-missile defense systems in those countries.  The idea was that these systems would guard the nations of Europe against the threat of a missile launched by Iran or some other terrorist nation.  The small systems were not enough to block a missile attack by Russia; the Russians had too many missiles.  Nevertheless, the Russians objected wildly to the installation of any missile defense system in Europe.  Obama and Clinton backed down; the missile defense systems were scrapped.  Again, Putin learned that by applying pressure, Russia could get Obama to back down.

Meanwhile, president Obama and Hillary Clinton started working on climate change.  They both did all they could to reduce production of oil and natural gas.  The end result was that the prices for these commodities stayed higher for longer than they ought to have done.  That meant more money for the Russians as they sold their output to Europe.  Obama and Clinton also tried to prevent the USA from exporting natural gas to Europe.  This too was meant to combat "climate change", but it just left Europe more dependent on Russian oil and gas.

In 2012, Mitt Romney famously said that America's number 1 geopolitical opponent was Russia.  President Obama laughed at the suggestion.  Obama's lack of understanding of the situation was clear.  Of course, Obama's principal foreign affairs adviser was Clinton.

Next came the Start Agreement.  Hillary Clinton also claims this as an achievement.  It was an agreement to limit nuclear weapons.  That sounds good, until you learn that Hillary and Obama agreed to a deal under which American had to cut its nuclear arsenal by about 20% while Russia got to increase its arsenal by about 5%.  We cut and Russia increases.  Is there any question why the Russians agreed to that deal?

Then we move on to Syria.  Obama and Clinton (who was in office despite her lie to the contrary in the last debate) came up with a strategy of imposing a "red line" on the battle in Syria that said that the USA would not allow the use of chemical weapons.  The expectation is that no such weapons would be used.  After all, for the last century, there has been nearly no use of chemical weapons in war.  The Assad regime, however, called Obama's bluff.  About a year later, Assad started having his troops fire shells with sarin and other nerve agents into populated areas held by the rebels.  Obama's answer was to pretend that there was not enough proof that anything had happened.  Country after country denounced Assad for using chemical weapons.  We had the spectacle of small European countries denouncing Assad while the USA pretended that nothing had happened.  Then a video of victims going through the horrible after effects of an attack made its way to the world's TV screens.  Obama panicked.  He tried to pass the buck to Congress, and he asked for authority to take action.  In the first vote, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved the measure and it went to the floor of the Senate for action.

At that point, Putin jumped in.  Russia proposed a deal, and Obama jumped at the chance.  Under the terms of the deal, Assad would agree to give up his chemical weapons, but the USA would, in essence, recognize Assad as the head of the Syrian government.  Keeping Assad in power was the goal of both Russia and certainly Assad.  The chemical weapons were secondary.  Obama gave them what they wanted and they let him off the hook with regard to doing anything to stop the use of chemical weapons.

Of course, today, Assad's forces are still using chemical weapons on a regular basis.  Obama got an agreement from Russia; he just did not get reality.  Once again words beat deeds.

Meanwhile, Russia invaded Ukraine.  The Russians took Crimea.  They took a big chunk of the eastern sections of Ukraine.  The Russians pretended that the soldiers involved were local "rebel", but the world knew the truth.  They were Russians wearing special uniforms to "conceal" their true identities.

It has been around two years since the Russians first moved on Ukraine.  They are still there.  America has done nothing in response.  Europe has done nothing in response.  The Russians and Putin understand that no one is going to stand up to them.

The crazy thing is that Russia is weak.  A battle between the USA and Russia would be like a battle between a tank brigade and cavalry.  The Russians will never actually engage in a fight with us; they don't have to.  They know that Obama and Clinton will both just back away and let Russia have its way.

Things have gotten worse lately.  The Russians are back with forces in Syria.  Russian troops had been ousted from Syria over 40 years ago.  They came back and the USA did nothing to stop that move.  Now, the Russians are about to move back into Egypt for the first time since 1973.  Next week, Russian paratroopers will take part in war games with the Egyptian army.  Egypt was America's close ally when Bush left the White House.  Obama managed to stand by while a revolt installed a supporter of Islamic terrorism in the presidential palace in Cairo.  When the military ousted that guy and replaced him with the current president, Obama threw a hissy fit and refused to accept the new president.  As a result, Egypt, the largest Arab country in the world is moving closer to the Russians and far away from the USA.  Even the Israelis are moving closer to the Russians.  Their prime minister has made four visits to Moscow in the last year.  The Israelis know that Russia will actually do things and that under Obama/Clinton, the USA won't.  We just talk a good foreign policy.  What we do is something quite different.

So put all this together and you find that the people most responsible for the current problems we face with Russia and its leader Putin are none other than president Obama and Hillary Clinton.  Putin wouldn't want to keep Clinton out of the White House.  She is the perfect president of the USA for the interests of Russia.  She's just a likely failure when it comes to furthering the interests of the American people.
