I just read the article in the Politico about Attorney General Eric Holder's comments in a congressional hearing about the New Black Panther Party case; Holder was questioned about the decision by his department to drop the matter after obtaining convictions against those who were trying to intimidate voters in Philadelphia in 2008. Two members of the New Black Panthers stood outside a polling place in Philadelphia (PA not MS) holding clubs in an attempt to prevent whites from voting. In the hearing, Representative John Culberson (R-TX) asked Holder about why the case was dropped, about why the Department of Justice refused to cooperate with the investigation into the matter by the U.S. Civil Rights commission, and about whether or not the DOJ will only prosecute voter intimidation cases if the victim is black. Holder took offense (or at least claimed to take offense) at the question and according to the article said that the focus on the Philadephia case "demeans my people". (Nice try to play the race card, Eric.)
Here's the question that I would have liked Holder to be asked: "If instead of two thugs in new Black Panther outfits holding clubs outside the polling place, there had been two thugs in Ku Klux Klan outfits holding clubs outside the polling place, would you still have dropped the charges and called the matter inconsequential?"
Actually, there is no need to even ask the question. We all know the answer.
