Obama's Energy Policy

President Obama discussed energy policy today and, in particular, charges that his policies have reduced oil and gas production in the USA. Here's how ABC News described what Obama said:

"Obama today dismissed the rhetoric from Republicans as political maneuvering, saying that while it makes for a good sound bite, it doesn't reflect reality. He added that the answer to the nation's energy security question is not just drilling new wells, because oil from those will not reach the market for some time, but rather focusing on clean-energy investment and technology."

So am I the only one who sees this for the garbage it is? Drilling is no good because it will take a while to get the oil and gas from the new wells? How fast does obama think the clean energy technology will take to go on line? Right now it is estimated that it would be a great success to get 20% of our energy from renewable sources in thirty years. That's right THIRTY YEARS!!!! And again, that's right TWENTY PERCENT!!!!

So how is the US economy supposed to survive if drilling is discouraged? After all, a well drilled now might take six months to deliver new oil or gas to the market. (sorry, I could not help but mock the stupidity of what Obama said.) It drives me crazy when I hear green nonsense from Obama. I have come to believe that he truly thinks what he says makes sense. the green energy stuff is much like a religious belief. Indeed, those fools who claim Obama is a Muslim are wrong. Obama believes in green energy and worships at the same church as Al Gore.

Agreed, the green movement backers personify the largest obstructionist impediment to growing our U.S. GDP. If a cleaner environment is what they truly want they are employing some of the most counterproductive strategies imaginable. For every barrel of oil not drilled in the regulatory obsessed U.S. there is a barrel likely imported from a country that cares little about greeness. Do we save the planet by polluting Mexico rather than drilling cleanly at home?

Take a good look at the environmental nightmare presented by a broken CFL light bulb.

These may save some energy but they might kill you in the process. Regardless, they have been proclaimed as our salvation by the greenies.

Consider the electric vehicle. Nevermind the horrendous chemical pollution that will need to be dealt with when it's time to dispose of the spent batteries. Just consider where the energy that charges those batteries comes from. Here's a hint. When you were a kid you might have had a train set with a steam powered locomotive. Attached and directly behind the engine was a coal tender. Now if your electric vehicle was pulling a trailer with a coal fired generator mounted to it - thereby providing juice to the car's motors - it would be spewing coal smoke as it rolled down the highway. This would still be better for the overall environment as the coal generated electricity would not experience the voltage drop that currently occurs over the hundreds of miles it would need to travel to arrive from a faraway power plant.

Nat gas powered vehicles are as good an alternative energy as we have available now and for years to come. When we say we need alternatives it should mean that we want many methods and not just alternatives to what the green police deem unacceptable.
