Word is out tonight that the obama administration is abandoning its push to get a three month extension of the Israeli freeze on construction in the so-called settlements, in order to allow continuation of the direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians. According to Bloomberg news, the first reason given for the change of heart is realization that the Palestinians would not accept such a freeze unless it included Jerusalem as well. So the Obamacrats have finally realized that no matter what the Israelis do it will not be enough unless the Israelis agree to abandon Jerusalem. Even Obama does not expect the Jews to abandon Jerusalem.
Obama's policy of pushing a settlement construction freeze was a mistake the day it was announced and remained a mistake at all times since then. Of course, Obama would never acknowledge his mistake. Instead, the world watch as Obama threw temper tantrums when the Israelis not surprisingly refused to ban the building of homes for Jews in parts of the Jewish state. Indeed, this policy has probably done more to undermine trust by Israel of the USA than anything since the days of the first president Bush and his "even handed" policy in the region.
I guess I should say "Better late than never", but obama is the president of the USA and he should have known better. His policy in the area has been worse than amateurish.
