Some Truly Frightening Prospects

Now that the election is over, president Obama will be considering who will be in his cabinet during his second term. We know for sure that Secretary of State Clinton is leaving. The received wisdom in the press is that John Kerry will replace her. It is hard to think of a worse choice. Sure, Obama could pick somebody kooky like Ralph Nader for the position, but that is not a realistic choice. Kerry's selection will put a weak man with a belief in the United Nations and an "America Last" gut position as the head of the foreign policy apparatus. The only good that would come from Kerry at State is that he would be out of the Senate and that he would make Clinton look good by comparison.

The Treasury Secretary is also leaving sometimes soon. We have no indication who will replace Geithner, but there have been rumors that Obama is leaning towards a politico like Mayor Bloomberg of New York. I find that almost inconceivable, but stranger things have happened.

Then there is the need for a new head of the CIA. Today David Petreus got forced out with a resignation over a supposed "affair". The idea that one of Obama's cabinet or the head of the CIA would have to resign over an affair is laughable. Think of Bill Clinton. Think of Geithner who cheated on his taxes and then became head of the Treasury. Obama does not care about that stuff. What happened today is that Obama took revenge on the CIA head for leaking the information about Benghazi in the weeks before the election. Obama had thrown the agency under the bus as providing poor intelligence and the CIA had retaliated by leaking information to the press that showed that it had no responsibility for the deaths of the four Americans in Benghazi; that blame goes all to the White House. With the election over, Petreus is now being forced out for defending his agency. The first rumor is that Obama plans to move Eric Holder from Justice to the CIA, but even Obama could not do that much damage to the USA.

Speaking of Holder, there is likely to be a new AG. I shudder to think who Obama will choose now.
