President Trump was acquitted in the Senate. The Democrats couldn't even get a majority, let alone the 2/3 vote needed to convict. In other words, it wasn't even close.
So what is the response of the mainstream media? First, they decided to lionize Mitt Romney becaue he became the only Republican in the House or Senate to vote for impeachment. There were Democrats in the House who voted against impeachment, but the media said essentially nothing about them. Romney, however, is getting as much press today as he did during the 2012 election.
Next, they decided improperly to characterize the response to the verdict. President Trump gave an impromptu speech this morning at a victory gathering in the White House. The media built it up ahead of time as Trump coming forward to lambaste his opponents. I watched the speech. It was unapologetic, but it was nothing more than what Trump has said many times in the past: he was wrongly targeted by the Democrats. When I heard the media coverage of the same speech I had just watched, however, it was reported as President Trump doubling down on anger and attacks on the Democrats. That's just a lie. The media also said that Trump was not gracious in victory. Huh? A terrible ordeal was unfairly inflicted on Trump by the Democrats and when it was over and Trump had won he failed to thank the Democrats for all that they did? What sort of a moron actually thinks that any sane person would be "gracious" at that moment. No, Trump reacted like any normal person who had just been put through hell.
The media also covered Nancy Pelosi's comments on impeachment. They didn't ask her how she could continue on as Speaker after she proved unable to even control her anger at the State of the Union address. No, they played Pelosi's slam of Trump as looking like he is on drugs. I guess to the media, that is Pelosi being "gracious".
I hope that in November Trump wins big, very big. Maybe then the media people will realize how little they understand America.
