Finally, some in the Senate get it

All 42 Republican senators wrote to Harry Reid this morning and told him that they would block all other legislation in that chamber until the senate takes up the two most important issues that remain unresolved: 1)tax rates for this year and next, and 2)funding of the government for the current fiscal year. The Democrats have been ignoring these issues which directly affect job creation and the health of the economy and have focused instead on other more "political" issues like don't ask, don't tell repeal, the Dream Act, and granting more regulatory control for the government over farmers in the name of food "safety". Since there is such a short time left to this session, the Republicans are saying that they want the important stuff dealt with first.

The AP quotes Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority leader this way: "Republicans have pleaded with Democrats to put aside their wish-list to focus on the things Americans want us to focus on. They've ignored us. The voters repudiated their agenda at the polls. They've ignored them. Time is running out. They're ignoring that.... The election was a month ago. It's time to get serious. It's time to focus on priorities."

All I can say is Good for McConnell and the GOP! It is time to get the Democrats to focus on the actual problems facing the country and not just their political wish lists. It would also help if Obama showed even a bit of leadership on this point, but I doubt that will happen.
