The Omnibus Spending bills

After going all year without even coming close to passing a single spending measure for the current fiscal year which began months ago, the Democrats in congress are now trying to wrap up all spending for the year in one omnibus spending bill. Such a bill would let the current congress decide spending levels going forward even though it failed miserably to even consider these spending measures when it was supposed to. The bill seems to be the attempt by the Democrats to insulate the government from cuts in spending likely to result from the new Republican majority in the House. Sadly, the Omnibus bill is another of the massive bills containing so much that no one in Congress can possibly know all that is in it. Like the healthcare bill, the Wall Street "reform" bill and the stimulus package before it, this is another rush job by Democrats that they hope to push through before anyone can rationally consider its contents.

My own view is that such tactics were roundly condemned by the election in November. The American people are tired of watching the Democrat leadership in Washington pass mystery bills crafted in secrecy without input from most of the members of Congress whose job it is to be part of this process. How many wasteful programs are just being continued without a thought? No one knows. How many agencies who are failing to meet their mandates are getting more funds to do things that they were not supposed to do? Again, no one knows. The truth is that the Democrats are continuing to insult the American people with their incredible lack of transparency. Thankfully, this will be the last time that they are able to do this.
