More wasted time

I have been writing about my dismay at the handling by the Democrats of the lame duck session of Congress and their refusal to handle the big items that are needed by the country. The big news yesterday was that the Senate had passed the so-called “food safety” act which gives the FDA major new powers to regulate farmers and other food producers. This bill used up the first ten percent of the lame duck session in the senate even though it still required passage by the House to become law, an uncertain possibility given the short time available to the House in the remainder of the lame duck session. Now we learn that the Democrats wasted all of this time. The bill as passed includes tax provisions, and this violates the constitutional requirement that all tax provisions originate in the House. As a result, the Democrats in the House are planning to reject the bill and send it back to the Senate where it can either die or be passed again without the offending provision. That will just waste more time. But then again, why should the Democrats worry about taxes, jobs and the economy when they can plan instead to impose various paperwork requirements on small farmers and other food producers?
I am truly looking forward to January when these buffoons are no longer in total control.
