A big news story yesterday was that Israel had decided to deny entry to two Democrat congresswomen who are strong opponents of the Jewish state. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota had scheduled a trip to "Palestine" (since they don't recognize the right of Israel to exist) in order to promote the anti-Israel BDS movement. BDS seeks to boycott Israel and Israeli goods in order to undermine and destroy that country. (Today, Israel agreed to let Tlaib into the country to visit her grandmother after she agreed not to promote any boycott while she was there.)
Old Joe Biden managed quickly to stick his foot in his mouth once again in commenting about the two congresswoman. He released a statement which read in part:
I have always been a stalwart supporter of Israel—a vital partner that shares our democratic values. No democracy should deny entry to visitors based on the content of their ideas—even ideas they strongly object to. And no leader of the free world should encourage them to do so.
This is a rather funny position for Old Joe to take since in 2012, the Obama administration refused entry to Michael Ben-Ari, a member of the Israeli Knesset because of the content of his ideas. That makes Ben-Ari the Israeli equivalent of an American congressman. Old Joe, of course, was a part of the Obama administration and he uses that fact as the main basis for his candidacy.
I guess when you get as old as Old Joe you have problems with your memory.
