Last night we saw six policemen shot in Philadelphia during a confrontation with a drug pusher. The media and Democrats like Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand immediately announced that the failure of gun control legislation was a cause of this violence. That, of course, turned out to be wrong. The shooter turned out to be a felon with a long list of convictions including multiple convictions for gun crimes. Under Pennsylvania law, this guy was already barred from owning or possessing any firearms. The weapons he used last night were all illegal.
So here's the point: the laws that Harris and Gillibrand were pushing already bar the criminal who shot the police from owning a gun. Those laws didn't work. Why would any reasonable person think that more such laws would lead to a different result. Criminals aren't deterred by gun control laws.
