Over at Powerline, there is an article about an amazing bit of corruption of the legal system that is being pushed by the "green" movement. It seems that an anti-fossil fuel group funded by former NY mayor Michael Bloomberg has been embedding lawyers in the offices of sympathetic state attorneys general for the purpose of attacking large oil companies for "causing" global warming. These lawyers are nominally employed by the attorney general, but they are paid for in whole by the Bloomberg group and take their orders from that group.
Think about this. Basically, when the state attorney general takes a legal position, he or she does so on behalf of the citizens of a state. The attorney general has the ability to sue people or companies that an individual would not be able to. The scheme in use in states like Minnesota is giving a private group the ability to use the power of the AG office even though that power is supposed to be reserved for the people's business. Think of it this way: suppose the federal government let a group use the resources of the Department of Justice including the FBI and all the rest to push a private agenda. Let's say that President Trump agreed that the NRA could use the DOJ to pursue those who want gun control. The media and millions of people would be beside themselves in anger, and rightly so. That's exactly what is happening with this Bloomberg group. They are being allowed to use the powers of the state attorney general in various states to attack oil companies supposedly on behalf of the state, even though that is just a sham.
A lawsuit was started this week to uncover more information about what has happened in Minnesota. If the facts are as stated above, the entire scheme is highly illegal.
The legal system is supposed to dispense equal justice for all. It is not supposed to be weaponized for political purposes. Schemes like this one must be stopped.
