For the last month, we have been blasted by report after report in the mainstream media about how Texas might be turning blue. The Democrats in Texas, or so we have been told, are pulling out all the stops and rising to form a wave that will overwhelm the GOP candidates. There was a major increase in early voting in the primaries by Democrats; that was the sign that counted, especially since there was only a much smaller increase in early voting among Republicans.
Well now the Texas primary has come and gone today. It seems that the only thing that has turned blue is the mood of the Democrats. In the primary for the governor's office, the incumbent Republican Greg Abbott got more votes than all the Democrats combined. In fact, he got about a third more votes than the Democrats. And here's the thing: Abbot was running against token opposition; there really was no GOP contest to draw voters to the polls. The Democrats, however, had a real race. In the senate primaries, the news was much the same. Republican Ted Cruz with no real opposition far outpolled the combined vote for all Democrats despite there being a real race on the Democrat side.
So the supposed wave of Democrats running to vote in Texas did not materialize. That's not to say that there won't be seats here or there that flip parties in November. That always happens. The idea that Texas is turning blue, however, is just another media pipe-dream. They want it; they report it; then it doesn't happen. I won't call it fake new; it's more wishful thinking by the far left media.
