Racism Back In Style In The Senate

Ever heard of Marvin Quattlebaum?  I doubt it; he's hardly a household name.  He was just confirmed in the Senate to be a federal district court judge in South Carolina.  The vote was about 69 to 29.  Quattlebaum has a distinguished career as an attorney, so it is not surprised that he was easily confirmed.  But here's the point:  Democrat Senate leader Chuck Schumer voted against confirmation and announced that his reason for doing so is that Quattlebaum is white.  Seriously, this is no joke.  Schumer voted against a nominee on the basis of his race.

Schumer says that he thinks that President Trump is choosing too many white judges, so he will vote against this one to make a point.  The point that this actually makes is that Schumer doesn't see the nominees as people to be evaluated but rather as just examples of their race.

Imagine for a moment what would happen if the Republican leader Mitch McConnell were to have voted against an Obama nominee and said it was because the nominee was black, Hispanic or a woman.  There would be endless media coverage and McConnell would likely be hounded from his position, if not his seat in the Senate.  Schumer, however, casts a clearly racist vote and it is hardly even mentioned.  The mainstream media has said nothing about this at all.

Martin Luther King saw the day when people would be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.  For Chuck Schumer, the day has not arrived.  He only sees skin color.
