Peter Beinart is a reliably liberal writer for the Daily Beast. he is out today with a column entitled "Why Obama's Campaign Bores Me". In the column, Beinart explains that there will be no drama in the 2012 election; Obama will win because incumbent presidents who do not have a serious primary challenge always win. That's it; that's the full scope of Beinart's great reasoning. Indeed, Beinart also admits in the column that he thought in 2004 that there was no way Kerry could lose. Apparently, northeast liberal senators married to very wealthy women and who exaggerated their service in the military always win too.
I realize that much of the left desperately wants to present Obama's re-election as inevitable. How better to demoralize the legions of conservatives who thrashed the Democrats in 2010. The pundits carrying water for Obama should at least try to come up with a reason for this nonsense, however. Putting a fool like Beinart out there to spout idiocy is not the way to do it. As they say in all those ads, past performance is no indicator of future results. Remember, if Beinart's purposrted rule were correct, we could have predicted the 2008 election results by stating "African Americans never get elected to national office."
