I just read Nicholas Kristof's latest column in the NY Times. Kristof writes regularly on the op-ed page on a variety of topics. Usually, the only thing that is consistent in his writing is that he hates President Trump and shows it always. Today, however, Kristof is writing to chide his fellow Democrats and leftists for opposing President Trump's moves towards some sort of peace with North Korea. Specifically, Kristof criticizes the idiotic letter sent by Senator Schumer and others to the President which lists the conditions under which the Democrats would support any agreement with the North Koreans. Kristof rightly points out that the conditions listed in the letter are completely unattainable, so the letter is really a way of opposing Trump's efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the North Korean problem. For once, Kristof makes a good point, namely, getting some sort of viable peace with the North Koreans is more important than opposing President Trump, even for the Democrats.
I had to laugh at some of Kristof's reasons set forth in the piece, though. He tells his fellow Dems that President Trump and his administration really want to go to war with the North Koreans and will do so if the talks fail. Therefore, the Democrats who are opposing the peace efforts are really playing into the hands of the President and supporting his true goal. Kristof also says that Trump is being played by Kim Jung Un -- although he gives no details. In short, even Kristof's support for this Trump effort remains anti-Trump.
