Another Lie Put To Rest

Is the USA treating "immigrants" harshly?  Has President Trump put draconian new rules in place that makes America one of the most unfriendly place in the world for immigrants?

If you listen to the Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media, you would think the answer to these questions is yes.  It's not.  First of all, America takes more immigrants into this country each year than the rest of the world combined.  That's not a talking point; it's a fact.  Our legal immigration system is huge, and then there are all the illegal aliens entering the country on top of that.  Legal immigrants qualify for all sorts of government benefits.  Even illegals get benefits in certain states.  We do deport some of the illegals, however, if they get caught.  It has been that way for about a century.  That's hardly "harsh" treatment.

But, but, but the USA is tearing children from the parents of immigrants, right?  That's terrible, or so we are told.  And it's just because of Trump, right?  Wrong.  The law requires illegals who get caught at the border to be either immediately deported or deported after a hearing.  Under the law, these illegals are supposed to be detained.  There are vast facilities around the country to house those who get detained in this way.  About 20 years ago, for example, the government built a huge detention center on the waterfront in Brooklyn, NY for illegals caught in the area of New York City.  It can hold over 1000 people.  The law also provides that children are not to be put in detention centers that run like prisons.  They are to be housed separately.  That's also and old law.  The difference is that the Trump administration is enforcing the actual law.  Unlike the Obamacrats, the current administration is not ignoring the law and illegally and unconstitutionally making up its own.  As a result, children of illegals who get caught at the border are being separated and housed in non-prison-like conditions.  That's the law that Congress (by the way, a Democrat controlled Congress) passed years ago.

But, but, but aren't we doing things like forcing Hatians who were admitted here temporarily after the earthquake nine years ago to go home?  How could we do something like that?  No other country would, right?  Well let's take a look at Canada.  Our northern neighbor is very welcoming to immigrants.  Their government is liberal.  They must be taking in the Hatians, right?  Wrong.  According to the Canadian government Hatians who are in the USA temporarily on the earthquake program have been flooding in to Canada seeking asylum.  The Canadian government has admitted roughly 8% and immediately deported the rest back to Haiti.  In other words, Canada is doing almost exactly the same as the USA.  Does that make Canada heartless and harsh?  Nope.  It can't be.  After all, Prime Minister Trudeau is a Liberal.

The reality is that the current immigration system is a mess.  The Democrats are blocking any chance to change the system to make it rational.  The change is not hard to figure out.  There are proposals that would do it.  The reality, however, is that the Democrats want to have an issue for the November election more than they actually want to help the "immigrants" who they always claim to champion.
