Very Sad News

Charles Krauthammer is one of the few individuals in the media whose views have always been worth watching or reading.  Dr. Krauthammer was a fixture on the Fox News show Special Report and he also wrote for the Washington Post.  Krauthammer has pulled no punches in his views, but he has always been courteous, thoughtful and insightful.  Unlike so many of the talking heads on cable news who blather on and on just repeating the talking points of the day, Charles brought knowledge and analysis to every discussion.  His views were uniquely his own.  For many, he was the leading conservative voice of his time.  For most, he was clearly a leading conservative voice.

Last year, Dr. Krauthammer disappeared from the TV screen and the pages of the Post.  Today we learned why.  He was being treated for cancer.  At first, the doctors thought that he had beaten the disease, but it has now reappeared with a vengeance.  They give him about a month to live.

Today Dr. Krauthammer issued a statement informing his friends and his fans of what had happened.  I will not paraphrase the statement which is written in his usual clear and concise manner.  You can read the statement here. 

I will miss Charles Krauthammer.  I always enjoyed listening to him and reading his columns.  More important, though, a major voice in our national conversation is being lost.  America will miss that.
