Does Obama Think Americans are Stupid?

Today the Senate voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution to fund the government for the next two weeks while cutting $4 billion in spending. President Obama used that occasion to call for meetings between Senate and House leaders together with vice president Biden to negotiate spending levels for the remainder of the current year. Then Obama said the following: "This agreement should be bipartisan, it should be free of any party's social or political agenda, and it should be reached without delay."

What utter nonsense! I am sure that president Obama knows that the decision about what to cut necessarily depends on social and political agendas. Should there be cuts to funding for planned parenthood so that the money cannot be used for federally funded abortions? Sounds like a political and social agenda question. Should the EPA have its funding cut which might reduce enforcement efforts regarding pollution? Again, this is a social and political question. Indeed, almost every federal expenditure affects the social and political agenda of one party or the other. Indeed, even if the salaries of federal workers were cut by 5%, it would be a political question. After all, those folks vote.

So, if the president knows that his comments are ridiculous nonsense, why does he make them? The answer is that while Obama knows that he is spouting nonsense, he thinks that most Americans will not recognize this. Then, when the Republicans stick to the cuts they already proposed, obama can attack them for asking for cuts in accordance with the Republican agenda. Since the Democrats have not managed to come forth with a plan for the rest of the year even though that year is already half over, there is no problem of the Dems asking for cuts according to any agenda. When they dither without a plan, the Dems clearly have no agenda.

Wouldn't it be nice if Obama decided just for once to actually lead the country for the good of the USA? Everything has to be aimed at what is good for Obama and his party. Just imagine if the White House actually came forward with its own plan for spending for the rest of the year. But that would require real work and it would allow reality to intrude into Obama's world. We have 22 more onths of this guy as president. I cannot wait for January 20, 2013.
