A Terrible Slander

Here is an excerpt from a book by Kenneth Walsh of US News that was just published:

"But Obama, in his most candid moments, acknowledged that race was still a problem. In May 2010, he told guests at a private White House dinner that race was probably a key component in the rising opposition to his presidency from conservatives, especially right-wing activists in the anti-incumbent "Tea Party" movement that was then surging across the country. Many middle-class and working-class whites felt aggrieved and resentful that the federal government was helping other groups, including bankers, automakers, irresponsible people who had defaulted on their mortgages, and the poor, but wasn't helping them nearly enough, he said."

Obama has no proof that race is a key component of the Tea Party movement. He has no proof that conservatives oppose his policies due to his race. He has no proof that because of his race, white voters feel that the government has not done enough for them. Are there any white racists left? Sure. Are there any Black racists left? Sure. But the conservative political philosophy has been a major force in the USA for at least the last 50 years, and for most of that time, the liberal Democrats against whom the conservatives fought were white, not black. All that Obama is doing is repeating the usual libel against conservatives that they are racists, bigots, anti-semites, homophobes, anti-women, and you name it. If that kind of crap comes from someone like Al Sharpton or Nancy Pelosi, well that is to be expected since those folks are not slaves to the truth. But the president of the United States should actually be president of all the people and not just say that he is. The president should treat people with civility and not just call on his opponents to do that. the president should take care not to say incendiary things that gullible people will accept as valid when he well knows that what he is saying is false. This is a new low for Obama, and that is saying a lot.
