Which is Worse? - 2

Today's installment of "Which is Worse" moves to domestic social issues. Here it is:

Which is worse:

1) Killing a child born alive as the result of a failed abortion, or
2) Limiting the right of women to an abort their fetus even after the point when the child is viable?

While this may sound like an unlikely choice, it is a real one. There have been multiple instances of doctors performing late term abortions only to have the fetus delivered alive at a point when it can survive outside the womb. Both states and the federal government have tried to pass legislation to deal with the situation; these statutes prohibit the doctors from withholding treatment from the child so as to allow it to die.

One man who has made clear his position on this alternative is president Obama. As an Illinois state senator, he voted three times on a statute called the “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act.” That proposed statute required doctors to give care to viable infants born as a result of failed abortion attempts. It was opposed by the abortion rights groups as an infringement on abortion rights. Obama voted three times against the bill. In other words, Obama chose death for the children rather than limit abortion rights in any way.
