Why Would Anyone Pay Attention To This?

Remember the agreement on Syrian chemical weapons that president Obama proclaimed a great "victory" that would rid the world of those horrific weapons of mass destruction?  Well guess what!  It is no surprise to anyone (except perhaps Obama), but the Syrian regime is not complying with the agreement.  Under the terms of the agreement, Syria was to have turned over 100% of its chemical weapons for destruction by the end of 2013.  Instead of that, the Assad regime has to date turned over 4% of the chemical weapons which they admitted having.  You can be sure that there are more such weapons hidden around Syria which Assad and his thugs never disclosed.  So, to put things in the best possible light for Obama, the Syrians are 96% short of compliance with the agreement, and it most likely is worse.

There finally has been a response today from the Obamacrats about Syria's failure to meet these treaty obligations.  White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough appeared on Face the Nation today and said that president Obama would make the Syrians comply.  Here are his exact words:

"We’re going to make sure that the Syrians live up to their obligations. They have an obligation to the international community to do exactly what they said they’d do.”

Not surprisingly, McDonough refused to say what the USA would do to compel the Syrians to comply.

Is there still anyone in the world who thinks that president Obama will actually do something to force Assad to comply?  The truth is that the line that was used at the time of the agreement's signing is even more applicable today.  "President Obama gave the Syrians five months to turn over all of their chemical weapons.  And if they don't comply, Obama is going to give them five months more."

Who knows?  Maybe Obama will bring in John Kerry to negotiate again with the Syrians.  This time instead of just having the Syrians agree to turn over the weapons and fail to do so, we can have the USA provide economic and military aid to Assad and then he can fail to turn over the weapons.

Obama is at a loss to deal in the real world of foreign policy.  We are all in danger as a result.  Let's hope we can hang on for the next three years without a total disaster.

ONE LAST NOTE:  I did not want to write about Syria without reminding everyone that there have now been 140,000 Syrians killed and at least 3 million made refugees while the USA has done nothing but allowed the battle to change into one that has Assad the psycho murderer and his Iranian allies on one side and the terrorists of the al Qaeda affiliates on the other.  No matter who wins, everyone in the world loses.  This situation did not have to happen.  With a little courage and wisdom, Obama could have stopped it years ago.  It certainly seems that he does not care about the last 100,000 dead or the next 100,000 dead around the world when the terrorists start using chemical weapons.
