Deeds, Real Deeds

As I write this, I am in Cherbourg in France.  About ten miles from here just about seventy years ago, hundreds of thousands of Americans, English, Canadian and other allied soldiers landed on the Normandy beaches to commence the liberation of Europe from the Nazis.  If you have seen the beaches where they landed and the formidable German defenses, you understand that each of the soldiers who landed there risked his life to accomplish something important.  These men made no speeches and released no talking points.  They gave no interviews in which they claimed not to know what was happening.  They did not deny full knowledge of what was going on and what was their duty to achieve.  No, these brave men did their jobs despite the terrible costs imposed on many of them.  The achieved actual deeds.  They made a real difference in the lives of millions upon millions of people.

It is hard to imagine a more disappointing comparison to the deeds of the brave warriors of D-Day seventy years ago than the present reaction of president Obama to the failure of the government to provide the promised healthcare to veterans (including some of the very men who landed on the beach all those years ago.)  Despite being warned six years ago of the specific problem now getting widespread coverage, Obama did nothing.  He did not even say much about the problem.  He just ignored it.  Now, as the problems become clearer and more widespread, Obama claims ignorance.  He was specifically warned of the problem, but now he claims that he did not know.  The world understands that Obama knew full well about the problem, but he still says that he did not know.  Our charlatan president is so unable actually to DO anything, that he just tells ridiculous lies to America and the world and then thinks that this will somehow excuse his failures to act.

Isn't it time that Obama learns that America will hold him responsible for his failures.  We chose him to be president not so that he could make speeches.  It was not to be a symbolic figure.  America chose Obama to be president to do something that no doubt will shock Obama.  We chose him to be our leader, to actually do the things that need to be done.

Just for once, wouldn't it be nice if Obama would surprise us and do something?
