When In Rome

I have been in Rome, Italy, for the last few days.  Rome is one of the more interesting and beautiful cites of the world.  It provides everything with a non-stop dose of history as well.  It also teaches an important lesson:  no matter how powerful something seems, it must be both defended and managed well.  After all, Rome is the site ofone of the most powerful organizations ever known to man:  the Roman Empire.  The empire disappeared after centuries of unquestioned world dominance.  It was mismanaged and it rotted from within.  Rome ruled most of the known world for 7 centuries and then it was gone.  Since that time, empires have come and gone, but nothing has come close to Rome.  The British ruled more land and more people, but they never reached the totally dominant position of the Romans.  The Soviets held sway over nearly a quarter of the globe, but that domination lasted just a few decades.  At the moment, the USA is the sole superpower, but the Obama administration seems intent on ending that role and reducing the strength of America.  Only time will tell if president Obama is successful in his drive to weaken America or if American resilliance will triumph over leftist ideology.
