South Carolina -- stranger still

Yesterday i chronicled some of the strange happenings in politics in South Carolina in recent months. Today we get another one. Congressman Clyburn of South Carolina now wants the US Attorney to investigae Alvin Greene, the Democrat who won the primary for Senate on Tuesday. Greene did not campaign. He had not ads. He just paid the filing fee and got on the ballot. Nevertheless, Greene won with 60% of the vote over a candidate who actively campaigned.

Clyburn believes -- of course, without any evidence -- that Greene is a plant. clyburn thinks that the Republican party in south Carolina paid the filling fee for Greene in order to get his name on the ballot. Of course, that does not explain how Greene won all those votes. It does provide Clyburn with something of an excuse for why the Democrats nominated a man who had been arrested just a few months ago in connection with internet pornography. I guess Clyburn figures that if the Democrats are stuck with Greene as a candidate, maybe he can push the problem onto the Republicans.

If I am not mistaken, Clyburn is one of the members of the congressional black caucus who claimed to have been called the N word by Tea Party protesters outside the Capitol on the day that the healthcare bill passed. That claim turned out to be a lie. My guess is that Clyburns latest move is just another lie.

I have to say that what surprises me most is that Clyburn thinks he can actually get away with this stuff. what a low opinion of his constituents he must have!
