Will US Steel Hire Back 10,000 Steelworkers?

The CEO of US Steel told CNBC today that his company would like to expand its operations in the USA and rehire 10,000 steel workers who were previously laid off.  The move would be the result of a reduction in regulations and an improved tax regimen due to the policies to be pursued by Donald Trump.

I don't know if this will actually happen; only time will tell us that.  One thing I do know for certain, however, is that it would be pretty poor leadership for the CEO of US Steel to say this and then to not follow through with it.  US Steel is a big company, but it is just one of many employers who could see faster economic growth and increased demand right here in the USA due to the Trump policies.  Remember 10,000 jobs for steel workers is a lot better than four or five times that many new jobs in restaurants or retail.  These are good paying jobs which support a nice middle class life style.  These are also jobs most likely centered in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan or one of the other states where workers supported Trump in the election.

For the last eight years, we have been told again and again by president Obama and the Democrats that there is no way to bring back jobs like this.  It sure looks like they were wrong.
