South Carolina has the strange market cornered

Last year, south Carolina's governor disappeared when he went to Argentina to see his mistress. That was weird, but no worse than Elliot Spitzer and his blacksox scandal (apologies to the 1919 White sox). Then, in the Republican primary for governor, the leader was claimed to have had a series of affairs with men who just happened to be campaign workers for her opponents. (More likely, the campaign workers were in bed with those opponents.) Despite the charges -- which were strongly denied -- she came in first, but will still face a run off. Now comes yet another South Carolina shocker. The Democrat who won the senate nomination to run against Jim DeMint has been revealed to be currently charged with showing pornography to a minor over the internet. While this candidate has little chance to win against DeMint, the fact that he could get through the primary without anyone finding out that he had been arrested is mind boggling.

I guess this all leads to one question: Is there something in the water in South Carolina that causes this?
