Iran and missed opportunities

The Ambassador to the USA from the United Arab Emirates told an audience in Aspen Colorado that the UAE would prefer to see the destruction of the Iranian nuclear facilities by military action rather than the existence of an iran armed with nuclear weapons. This terrible choice between these two evils is the result of perhaps the biggest mistake of the Obama presidency.

Last year, when the Iranian people were rising in hte streets against the regime, the USA did nothing to support the people. Instead of using the opportunity to bring down the hateful, crazy regime in Teheran, Obama said nothing. Indeed, he made clear that the USA was totally uninvolved with the matter. Just imagine the change in world affairs if the crazies in Iran were replaced with a rational Islamic group. Iran would not become suddenly a new force for world peace, but the threats and terrorism that now emanate daily from Iran would be gone. The push towards nuclear weapons would be gone. The likelihood of war in the Middle East would be lessened. Indeed, the US servicement who are wounded or killed in Iraq and Afghanistan with Iranian weapons would be cut back in a major way.

Obama came into office witht the maxim of not letting a crisis go to waste. when Iran had its governmental crisis, Obama did nothing. A little push applied by the CIA could have, perhaps, toppled the Iranian regime. Obama's choice of inaction was a mistake that the world will now pay for. Too bad we elected a man who has no idea how to conduct foreign policy to protect the interests of the USA.
