Quite a switch

This morning's Atlantic City Press has two articles that detail a major change in the gambling market in the area. First, the Press reports that visits to the Jersey shore are up substantially this summer over last. The paper interprets this as a loosening of the tighter purse strings that prevailed in 2009. Second, they report on the declining number of slot machines in Atlantic City. These are down by about 15% in the last two years. More interesting is that the numbers are similarly down in Connecticuts two mega casinoes as well as in the racinos in New York and other area states. Only Pennsylvnaia which is continuing to develop new casinos shows a rise in slots. These numbers indicate to me that the number of casinos may finally reached a limit. States will no longer be able to turn to these ventures as easy sources of additional revenue. It appears that there actually is a limit to how much people will gamble.
