Yesterday, I wrote about the hearing that was to take place at the 5th Circuit court of Appeals with regard to whether or not to stay the effect of the decision overturning the government's ban on offshore drilling. Well, we got a decision on the spot. The Court ruled against the Obama administration and let the lower court ruling stand. That means that there is, for the moment, no ban on offshore drilling.
The feds will no doubt appeal this to the Supreme Court. Since that court does not meet again until October, it should be a while before we get a decsion. I am uncertain if there is a mechanism to consider the request in the interim. Sadly, during the wait, there will be no drilling. Companies that have drilling permits are reluctant to go ahead with the enormous expenditures involved unless they are sure that ultimately they will be able to produce the oil discovered. Even in losing, the Obamacrats have managed to destroy this sector of the economy for now.
