At a news conference this afternoon, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the United States would hold Iran accountable for backing a failed terrorist polt to kill the Saudi ambassador to the US and blow up the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington. Really?
Over the last few years, it has been extablished that Iran was funneling weapons into Iraq to be used against American soldiers. the majority of the IEDs found in Iraq had been manufactured in Iran and those IEDs were the pricipal killer of our troops. Iran has also been the gateway for a large amount of weaponry into Afghanistan, again to be used against US troops. Since the US began a large scale draw down of its troops from Iraq, the Iranian backed militias in Iraq came out of hiding and started a terror campaign once again.
Let's forget for the moment that Iran has also been the principal backer of Hezbollah, a terror organization, and that Iran has also supplied major assistance to Hamas, another terror group. Instead, let's focus only on the Iranian actions which led directly to the killing and the wounding of American servicemen. To date, the United States under Barack Obama has done nothing in response. That's right, Iran is killing our troops and we have done nothing.
Now, Iran has taken the next step and tried to arrange for terror attacks in Washington itself. It is these attacks for which Holder says we will hold Iran accountable. So what are we going to do? Will Obama give a speech and say unkind things about Iran -- or is that too vicious to consider. If the US can sit idle while Iran develops nuclear weapons, why should we get concerned about a small embassy bombing or two.
The simple truth is that each of the Iranian actions discussed above constitutes an act of war against the USA. We would be perfectly justified to declare war on Iran and bomb the hell out of that country. Of course, that will never happen. I know it; you know it; and most important, Iran knows it.
Holder is probably thrilled to have something like this to talk about on a day when Holder is likely to receive the latest subpoena regarding his knowledge on the Fast and Furious Program. Too bad that Obama will not respond to the Iranian provocations.
