In the last few days we have learned that a terrorist with support from Iran tried to have the Saudi ambassador to the US assassinated by blowing up a restaurant where he would be dining. The terror plot also called for blowing up the Saudi and Israeli embassies in both Washington and Buenos Aires. fortunately, the plot was thwarted by the FBI. But let's be clear: had the plot actually been carried out, it would have constituted a clear act of war by Iran against the USA, Saudi Arabia and Argentina. Indeed, the plot itself was an act of war by Iran against those countries. Think of it this way, if American planes had shot down all the Japanese trying to attack Pearl Harbor in 1941, it still would have meant war.
The question now is the American response to this attempted Iranian attack. Here is the description from the New York Times of the current plan: "Despite issuing harsh calls for Tehran to be held to account, the Obama administration does not plan to shift its policy...."
Once again Obama is in a fantasy that often afflicts him. Obama simply cannot differentiate between what he says and what he does. "Harsh calls for Tehran to be held to account" are the same in Obama's mind as action. But what is the point of making a lot of noise if one does nothing about the events. Can we really sit by as a country and let Iran plan attacks in our capital city on our allies and do nothing? The attack in the restaurant to take out the ambassador would have killed hundreds, but Obama is going to do nothing?
I do not think that Obama's response here demonstrates a lack of nerve on his part. The predator drone strikes against the Al Qeada figures in Pakistan and Yemen make that clear. No, this is something much worse. Obama actually believes that the world cares about what he says. He believes that America cares about his speeches rather than his actions. How many times were we told that the recovery was strong and growing even though the actions of the administration were pushing in the other direction. Obama is delusional.
