Politico's declining audience

Politico has been one of the more prominent websites for news about politics. It has a distinct liberal bias, however, and I have stopped going there for news. Instead, I just look at it as a place to get liberal opinion. Apparently, my reaction is not unusual. The Daily Caller reports today on the decline in traffic to Politico. Last month traffic to politico was down 8.6% from a year earlier. Other sites specializing in politics had big increases. The Daily Caller reports an increase of 100%. The Huffington Post which makes no attempt to hide its biases reports an increase of 111%. Hey, even my site, Connecticut Comments has seen traffic increase by 129% in November of 2011 compared to November of 2010. Other sites have also had large increases.

In my opinion, the problems suffered by Politico have come about because the site pretends to be impartial while actually displaying quite a liberal bias. A big group of people do not want to read slanted news. Another big group are happy to read biased stuff, but they want to go where the bias is announced and clear. Politico misses on both accounts.
