I haven't commented on the sentence received by Bowe Bergdahl for leaving his post in Afghanistan but I did not want this to recede into history in silence. The military judge who decided that Bergdahl should not go to prison is a fool. Bergdahl deserted his post and ended up in Taliban captivity for many years. That was what he chose'; it is not a substitute for justice for his desertion. Brave men died searching for Bergdahl, and others were wounded. For that reason alone, he had to be punished. A year in prison would have been adequate, but no prison is a joke.
