When you think about the non-stop blather regarding collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in 2016, consider what evidence there is to support the idea. Basically, there really isn't much of anything. A few Trump-related people met with Russians during 2016, but there is nothing that suggests that there was some election related collusion involved or that these Russians were representatives of the Russian government. Jeff Sessions spoke twice to the Russian ambassador. Once was in a meet and greet after a speech when there were something like 20 other ambassadors around, hardly the place to collude. The other time was in a meeting regarding the work of the Armed Services committee which again was not a solo meeting. Paul Manafort is constantly said to be a Russian agent, but there is no proof of this. Indeed, even the indictment brought by the special prosecutor says Manafort was employed by Ukraine, not Russia, and that it was in a period long before the campaign. So what really is there on which to rely if you want to claim collusion. If you're MSNBC or the conspiracy news network (CNN), you point to the meeting held by Donald Trump, Jr. with the Russian attorney Vaselnitskaya before which the attorney promised to give Don, Jr. a batch of information that could be harmful to Hillary. The meeting turned out to be nothing; no information was passed about Hillary. In fact, the discussion was about adoptions. Still, the Russian attorney is said to have Kremlin ties and that is supposed to make the meeting significant. Well even that narrative blew up today.
Fox News is now reporting that attorney Vaselnitskaya met both before and after her meeting with the President's son with none other than a partner in Fusion GPS. Fusion GPS, you may recall, is the public relations/opposition research firm that put together the Trump dossier. That is a phony pack of lies assembled to make Trump look bad. Fusion GPS got the false info about Trump by paying the Russians for it. In turn, Fusion GPS was paid to assemble this phony dossier by the DNC and the Clinton campaign. Indeed, 12 million bucks was the cost to Clinton and the DNC to get this pack of lies. One thing the dossier was supposed to show was a relationship between Trump and the Russians. How better to make it look like there's really something happening there than to have Trump's son meet with a Russian attorney with Kremlin ties? Clearly, Fusion GPS gave the Russian attorney instructions prior to the meeting and then debriefed her afterwards. These meetings between Fusion GPS and the Russian attorney lead inescapably to the conclusion that the meeting with Trump's son was a set up to try to create the appearance that something wrong had happened.
It's not often that you see a political trick unravel in front of your eyes. Usually, they just go off into the dark and die. The Democrats mistake has been that they pushed this phony story line so far for so long. This is a mistake that will soon come back to bite them on the rear end.
