Lemon Harangue

We are now a few weeks into the left's effort to harass and harangue those who work for President Trump as well as other prominent Republicans.  Newt Gingrich is correct in pointing out that this is proof that the left realizes that they are losing in their war to regain power.  In fact, things are going so much better than they did under Obama and the left that it may be a long, long time before we ever see a left wing government in this country again.  There is more proof coming every day that President Trump and the Republicans are picking up support from Hispanic and black Americans, the core support in the past for the Democrats.  The left can't win the argument through reason, so they are resorting to threats, obstruction and theater of the absurd.  The question now, is will this campaign of intimidation work or will it turn out to be just another lemon manufactured by the left in a failed attempt to crush Trump and the GOP.

Today's likely announcement of the President's nomination for the Supreme Court is the latest body blow to the chances of success by the left.  With today's pick, there will be four young Supreme Court justices who are conservative and who follow the originalist doctrine in interpreting the Constitution.  In other words, these justices believe that the Constitution should mean today what it meant when adopted.  It can be modernized to apply to things that didn't exist in the 18th century, but new "rights" and powers should not get created by just the Court.  This means for example that religious freedom should not be curtailed by the Court even if the new religion of secularism decides that it wants to establish rights that conflict with religions.  There are four other SCOTUS justices whose age or health make them likely short-timers on the court.  Nothing will motivate many of the GOP voters more than wanting to keep President Trump appointing conservative justices when these four depart from the scene.

More important than anything else, however, is the terrible impression that the threats of mob violence make on the vast middle of the American electorate.  Does anyone other than the true believers and haters of the left actually think that it helps for them to look more like a lynch mob than a group of reasonable people.  Do they actually think that there are undecided voters out there who think, "I really want to put this group in charge of the government!"  It's hard to imagine than they can be that delusional.
