Just when you thought they couldn't do it again!

In today's New York Times, Tom Friedman writes a column in which he announces -- as if surprised -- that new jobs come from new companies, not established ones. In his words the jobs come from start ups not bail outs. Highway construction and GM style bailouts will simply not create the jobs that America needs to prosper. So far so good -- Friedman is just reciting facts. But what does Frieman take away from this? Simple! America needs to be more open to immigration since many start ups are created by immigrants. Friedman does not utter even one word about the vast increase in taxes that has be placed upon small business by the Obamcrats in the middle of a recession. He says nothing about the various indirect taxes that the Obamcrats espouse. Indeed, Friedman does not even consider the restrictions on capital formation, the life blood of any new business. Friedman's view is akin to his announcing that medical health depends on painting hospital rooms blue since many of those who have been healed were in blue rooms. Forget better doctors and medicine, it is the color of the paint on the wall that is most important.

It is hard to imagine that even the New York Times could print such stuff. Over the last year and a half we have watched a concerted attack by the Obamacrats on the small business community. This is one of the reasons why job creation has been so anemic and will continue to be hurt. It is not rocket science to understand that when a small, thinly capitalized new business suddenly has to pay about 10% more in assorted taxes, that its growth will be hampered. Further, those who contemplate opening up a business will be less likely to do so since the requirements for success have been made that much more difficult and the rewards lowered.

Is it conceivable that the Democrats will ever understand basic economics? the truth is that I believe that they do understand and they just do not care. For big business, the Obamacrats use crony capitalism taking government resources and giving it to those who they favor and who contribute to Democrat power. The idea of helping America rather than helping themselves just never seems to occur to them.

Let's hope that the days of Dem control end in November. The country cannot take too much more of this.
