The announcement of the Pullitzer prizes today with no mention of the national Enquirer is a joke. The Enquirer's expose of the John Edwards mistress story in the face of a yawn from the rest of the so-called press is so far out there as an accomplishment of major moment that the paper deserved a Pullitzer prize. I guess that the pullitzer panel of judges were just to caught up in their self importance and snobbishness to ever consider giving a prize to a scandal sheet like the Enquirer. It also did not help that the Enquirer's target was a favorite of the left whose exposure did not sit well with that group.
While I cannot bestow a Pullitzer, I am awarding the National Enquirer the first Jeffrey Award for courageous, in depth reporting on national affairs or affairs of national figures.
