There is a new Rasmussen poll out today reporting the attitudes of Americans towards "global warming" or "human caused climate change" as the Gore crowd now call it. According to Rasmussen's results, 19% of Americans believe that extreme weather is caused by human activity while 51% believe that it is caused by long term planetary trends. Twelve percent blame some other cause and another 19% are not sure. The key result here is that the Gore position which Al calls "accepted science" can only must the support of just less than one in five. A few years ago, it was the majority view of the public. I guess that P.T.Barnum was right, you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.
Two things of import changed the public perception of the global warming "science". First, we learned that the data upon which all of the analysis was based was phony. The study of global climate by East Anglia University in the UK was exposed in the e-mail of the scientists as containing numbers that were modified to fit the desired end result. Nothing undermines "accepted science" like finding out that the entire thing is based upon phony numbers. Second, it stopped getting warmer and got colder instead. Of course, this cooling phase was why the Gore crowd switched from global warming to climate change as the name of their cause. But for the general public, after hearing for years how humans were causing the planet to broil, it was a dose of reality to watch the temperatures plummet.
With the public this far from believing in the global warming "science", it seems clear that Gore lost once again. He must be used to it by now. Of course, he has managed to make many tens of millions of dollars from his supposed "public service", so he has not really lost.
