We live in a crazy world. One manifestation of this is the way that Republican candidates are viewed by the media compared to Democrat candidates. The truth is that this is the place where the media’s liberal bias is most pronounced. Much has been said this week about the “shocking” fact that Indiana governor Mitch Daniels and his wife were divorced and then remarried. Imagine the horror of learning that Daniels wife left him in the 1990’s and married another man, only to divorce that guy and remarry Mitch a few years later. This fact is discussed as if it disqualifies Daniels for the presidency. But think back four years, when Hillary Clinton ran for president, no one said that she would be disqualified because her husband cheated on her with every woman he saw who had big hair. Hillary sat there and denied the facts during the Monica days, even as her husband was getting serviced in the Oval Office. No one in the media even hinted that this would disqualify her. Of course, the truth is that what Bill Clinton or Mrs. Daniels did is not something that disqualifies Hillary Clinton or Mitch Daniels. Nevertheless, the media treats the Daniels story as if it is the end of the line for Mitch.
Then there is the way that racism charges are tossed around like confetti. I (unfortunately) watch a short bit of Chris Matthews the other day when he called the GOP candidates the “White Boys Club”. I realize that no one watches Matthews if they can avoid it. (There may be a few masochists who like listening to someone shout nonsense, but I pity them.) Nevertheless, what about Herman Cain? White Boy? Or how about Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin? White boys? We get it Chris! Obama is black. That makes all Republicans racist for opposing him. It also makes you a purveyor of hatred and nonsense.
Then there are the “learned” articles that read the polls of four hundred Republican voters and analyze what that means for 2012. I like to read polls, probably more than most. But hey, its 18 months until the election and almost 9 months until the first caucus. The majority of the candidates are not even in the race yet. Here’s a hint: THE POLLS DON’T MEAN ANYTHING YET. If the polls at this point in the cycle really meant anything, then in 2008, Hillary Clinton would have squeaked by Rudy Giuliani to win the presidency. The same geniuses who are interpreting the polls now told us in 2007 that Hillary was the inevitable candidate. They also told us that McCain had no chance of being nominated.
