Yesterday, there were about 1 million protesters in the streets of Syria. Thirty two of those in the streets were shot dead by the government, and scores more were wounded. I guess it was just another Friday in Damascus.
Back in Washington, no one paid any attention. Why pay any attention to folks in a totalitarian state who are rising up against their dictator when we can discuss the cosmetic surgery future (or lack thereof) for Casey Anthony. I guess it reminds me of the old story where three women in a restaurant were discussing current events. The first woman says to the others that she just read n the newpaper that 50,000 people were killed in a flood in India and that included among the dead was one man from Ireland. At that point, the other two women exclaimed, "Oh that poor man."
I can understand why most Americans do not focus on protests in Syria; they have other things on their mind. I cannot and will not ever understand how the Obama Administration can let these senseless killing go on and on and on without taking any concrete action of any sort. No one says we need to go to war in Syria. but there have to be more forceful things we can do to give the protesters heart. We ought to show our support for them as they struggle to get rid of one of the most anti-American of all the dictators in the Middle East.
