Fast and Furious is the name for the "operation" run through ATF under which the US government sold guns to the Mexican drug cartels in order to "track" where the guns went. As most of you know, the guns were not tracked and countless crimes have been committed with them including the murder of a US border agent. The Department of Justice and the White House have said that the operation was only carried out with the approvals of ATF and they have been leaking news that acting director of the ATF Kenneth Melson would be ousted as a result. Melson's departure has been delayed, however, in order to keep him under control and to prevent him from speaking to Congress and the committees that have been investigating Fast and Furious. Now the wall of silence has been broken. Melson spoke at length to Congressional investigators within the last week.
The results of the interview are startling. We know from correspondence between the congressional committee and DOJ that the folks at DOJ misled Melson about his ability to speak to Congress. We also know that DOJ tried to prevent the furnishing of information by ATF to Congress. We hear further that it was only when Melson conplained that some in DOJ were hampering the investigation that word was leaked that Melson was about to be fired. The details are not yet out, but it appears that high level DOJ officials were well aware of the operation and took part in approving it.
I cannot wait to see what is in the interview and if there is any additional proof of this. One thing is certain: Eric Holder already told Congress that he and his deputies had no knowledge of fast and furious before the murder of the border guard last winter. If that proves to be a lie (as is looking more and more likely) Holder will have to go. If not, then Congress should cite Holder for lying under oath to Congress.
Just when you think that things cannot get any worse with the Obamacrats, something like this comes along and changes your mind.
