Earlier today, I wrote about the incorrect statements that get said over and over on MSNBC and I wondered if the talking heads there even realize just how wrong they are. Now I got another example of something similar from another source. This time it's Cecile Richards, the head of Planned Parenthood and Yahoo News.
Here's what happened. According to Richards, she met in January of 2017 with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. At the meeting, Kushner and Trump told Richards that the incoming administration would stop federal funds going to Planned Parenthood, but that if Planned Parenthood were to stop performing abortions, then federal funds could continue. That shouldn't surprise anyone; it was Donald Trump's position during the campaign which had just ended. Richards, however, said that if "felt like" a bribe. That led Yahoo News to run an article about how Ivanka and Jared "tried to bribe Planned Parenthood." Really? Since many people won't bother to read the article, they will just see the headline that Kushner and Trump tried to bribe Planned Parenthood. It's a totally bogus claim, but that won't matter. Yahoo got to slam Trump through his family with charges of bribery.
Does Yahoo News realize just how dishonest this all is? Sadly, in the case of Yahoo News, it's almost certain that the realization of the actual truth is there, but the people involved most likely don't care.
