Things Are Getting Strange In Moscow

In the last 24 hours, Russian media has peddled stories (1) that Queen Elizabeth II of the UK has a drinking problem and that Prime Minister May does as well, (2) that the poison gas attack by the Assad forces in Syria is fake news, and (3) that other countries are trying to legitimize upcoming attacks on Russian forces.  To say the least, it is bizarre, especially coming on the ongoing denials by Russia of its nerve agent attack on a former agent and his daughter in the UK with a chemical invented by and made only in Russia.  The stories are silly, but the question is why are they being offered at all?

Do the Russians expect many people to believe that someone other than Russian agents obtained the Russian nerve agent and then attacked in the UK to make it look like Russia was behind the move?  Why would that be done?  That's a question that is almost impossible to answer.

Do the Russians expect people to disbelieve the video of the aftermath of the chemical weapons attack outside Damascus and to accept Moscow's denials?  It's hard to see dead and dying children with obvious symptoms of a chemical attack and then to accept denials that claim there was no attack.  Who should we believe:  Moscow or the dead bodies?

Do the Russians really think it is a good idea to attack the British Queen and Prime Minister?  Do they think that this will help Russia regain the trust of other countries?

So why are all these stories hitting now?  Are we about to see some sort of move by Putin to attack in Ukraine or the Baltics?  Will there be other sorts of actions by Putin that will threaten the West?  do the Russians actually believe that they could win a confrontation with a united West?  I can't imagine that to be the case.

So what is going on?  I guess we will have to wait and see.
