All You'll Ever Need to Know

Asked about the biggest failing of his first term in office, president Obama told Charlie Rose this:

"The mistake of my first term - couple of years - was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times."

The sad thing is that Obama and the Obamacrats actually believe this. they think that Obama's policies were great, but they just were not presented properly to the American people. As a result, the people did not get an optimistic sense that they needed.

Let's focus on this little summary by Obama of his failings.

a.) Unemployment has been higher on average under Obama than under any president since the Depression. All those unemployed folks just needed to be told a story.

b.) The number of folks who have given up looking for work and dropped out of the labor force is at an all time high, and millions more have been forced to take part time work since they cannot get full time employment. Darn! Obama should have told them a story!

c.) Economic growth in the economy is running at a pace that will leave the average annual growth during his presidency lower than any other president of the last 70 years. A story could have handled that too.

d.) Those policy decisions that Obama says he made so well resulted in a government intrusion into the healthcare system that threatens to bankrupt healthcare providers and ultimately leave everyone with diminished care. Why didn't he tell a story here too?

e.) In foreign policy, Obama took the minor fighting in Afghanistan, tripled the number of American troops in that country, ran up more casualties there in a year than had been suffered in the preceding eight years, and then started pulling out without achieving any measure of success. Where is the story that Obama should have told about all those dead and wounded Americans who died while Obama dithered about staying in or out?

Let's be clear: We don't need a story from Obama. We need a recognition of the truth. He has been a major failure. His policies have not worked for the most part. If the man had the guts to come forward during his presidency and tell the public that his policies had not worked and that he was going to try something else, that might have captured the public's imagination. But Obama is, as they say, a legend in his own mind. He never does anything wrong, he just fails to explain his great deeds well. How many headlines have you seen where Obama is "doubling down" on some policy. If they did not work, then he will just increase the effort in the failure. Then he can tell us all a story. Of course, all those stories usually begin with "once upon a time there was an evil Republican" and end with "It was not my fault."

For the last five years, Obama has refused to release his medical records. The speculation has been that he was treated for depression at some point. After this latest statement, I wonder if it wasn't treatment for delusions.
