There's no place like Homs

Hundreds more people have been killed this week in Syria. On the northern border, Turkey has scrambled its fighter jets three days in a row as syrian helicopters approached but did not cross into Turkish airspace. It seems a safe bet that if the Syrians stray into Turkey, the Turks will shoot them down without warning just as the Syrians did to an unarmed Turkish plane that had strayed for less than a minute into Syrian airspace. Meanwhile, the shelling, killing, torture and death of Syrian civilians by the "government" forces loyal to Assad continues apace. The epicenter of the fighting is the city of Homs which has been under attack by the Assad forces for many months. Here is a particularly poignant description of conditions in Homs from one observer:

"The city has been bombarded non-stop for months," said Khaled Abul Salah, an activist from Homs. "Anyone wounded dies as there is no way they can leave town or go to hospital."

It seems that Assad's message to his people is "I'll get you and your little children too."

Aren't you proud to be an American as you watch our feckless president pretending that the mindless slaughter is not happening. Obama seems to be channeling Brooke Shields: "Nothing comes between me and my re-election."
