Today we have Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi hyperventilating about the fact the the dress uniforms for the US Olympic team were made in -- gasp -- China. Reid wants all the uniforms dumped in a pile and set on fire. Pelosi is using similarly colorful language to lament the foreign purchase of the olympic uniforms. It does seem strange that these two poobahs of the Washington Democrat establishment would go berzerk over the place of manufacture of some clothing. After all, both of these geniuses surely know that most of the clothing sold in the USA comes from China. A whole bunch more comes from other countries as well. Only a tiny fraction of the clothes worn in the USA were actually made here. We also know that these two never got upset over foreign manufacture in the past. Remember when it was disclosed that president Obama's campaign bus was made in Canada? We also know that Pelosi, at least, was rabidly for buying prescription medicine from abroad rather than from domestic manufacturers. They really don't care about buying imports. So why all the upset now?
Here is the reason: Mitt Romney was in charge of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He came into a very troubled situation and brought order out of the chaos. The Salt Lake games went from being on the edge of bankruptcy to actually taking place triumphantly, in good form and within the budget. It is an accomplishment that most Americans would look on kindly. Well, the Democrats can't have that. They cannot change the result of Romney's leadership of the Salt Lake City games, so they are trying to reduce the prestige of the Olympic Games overall. Reid and Pelosi are using this nonsense over where the uniforms were made in an attempt to paint the Olympic Committee as unconcerned about the nation. You can almost hear the Democrats chanting that the Olympic Committee only cares about money not people. And -- gasp again -- Romney used to be the head of the committee in 2002. He must also only care about money and not people. What an evil plutocrat.
I realize that this is a rather stupid manner of attacking Romney. but consider the source. No one ever accused Pelosi or Reid of being the smartest one in the room. Indeed, I doubt anyone ever accused either of being in the upper half of Americans when it comes to intelligence. I do predict, however, that you will soon see something come from the Obamacrats that ties Romney to the Olympic Committee and its decision to buy uniforms from Polo which had them made in China.

I'd be curious to know whether the uniforms for the Salt Lake City Olympics were made in the U.S. I suspect they were not, because if they were it would be a feather in Romney's cap and the Dems wouldn't be accentuating the contrast. If I am correct, then the Dems will undoubtedly soon claim that Romney set the precedent by outsourcing the uniform manufacturing back then.
