Down 72%

So here is the quiz of the day.  What is it that has declined by 72% today?

If you don't know the answer, it is not surprising.  The correct answer is that the size of the crowd attending today's innauguration is down by 72% from the size of the crowd that was there four years ago.  The estimate of the DC police is that 1.8 million folks were there in 2009 and that 500,000 are there today.  Given that today's ceremony is taking place on a national holiday when many more people are off from work and free to attend, the decline is even more striking.

The funny thing is that the media is trying to hide the decline in enthusiasm for president Obama.  One headline from AP actually reads "Plenty of People Attend Ceremony".  "Plenty of People?"  Really?  The truth is that this is the smallest crowd to attend the innauguration in recent memory.  But why would the media tell that to America.  After all, one news weekly just described Obama's second term as the "second coming".  If Obama is god-like to the left, how can it be that so few ordinary Americans are interested enough in him to show up to see history made?

Reality has a way of making itself known.  For all those out there who think that Obama is beloved or that he is viewed as a success by the American people, I suggest that you think again.  He got re-elected without putting forth a single big idea.  His only plan for the next four years could be summarized as "I am better than Romney."  While that election strategy was successful, it did not endear Obama to America or inspire the citizenry to expect anything positive.  Other than the core of true believers out there across America, the average citizen won't even be paying attention today.  But Obama will give his innaugural address.  Oh joy!  Another Obama speech!  Let's all cheer the teleprompter!  Again, the truth is that few folks will be listening.

I happened to see Jimmy Kimmel on ABC the other night.  He sent cameras out on the street in Los Angeles to ask average folks what they thought of the innauguration.  Even though the innauguration had not yet occured, every single one of the people interviewed expressed a view.  One told the interviewer that he liked the jugglers.  Another said that it was great when "she" threw teddy bears into the crowd during the parade.  The point is that these people are clearly not paying attention.

Let's hope that we only have four more years of a comatose country.
